The Flecktarn pattern was adopted shortly after German Reunification in 1990. It began development in the 1970s when the Bundeswehr was still being issued solid color olive drab uniforms. Several different pattern types were explored during this trials phase, but eventually a design inspired by WWII-era Peadot became what we know as Flecktarn.
